Seeding Where the Pasture Used to Be
Hydroseeding in Celina covers some of the newest ground in the metro. The Dallas Business Journal ranked Celina the fastest-growing city in Dallas-Fort Worth three years in a row, from 2019 to 2021, and the city plans for a build-out population of about 378,000. Much of the land that will hold those homes is still pasture or farm ground, so every month more of it gets stripped, graded and left bare.
A big footprint
The city limits cover about 48 square miles, and the total boundary including land outside the limits reaches about 78 square miles. That mix means we see very different jobs: large rural lots where owners want a lawn near the house and native grass beyond it, and dense new phases where every yard is a small rectangle of fresh clay.
Stripped pasture
When a pasture is cleared for development, the old sod and its root mat go with it, and the clay underneath has nothing holding it. Collin County sits in the blackland prairies, where the soil is dark alkaline clay that cracks in dry spells. Bare tracts lose topsoil to wind and rain quickly. Silt fence along the downhill edges and hydromulch on finished grades keep that soil on site and out of streets and creeks.
Large-lot lawns
On acreage, hydroseeding is often the practical way to cover a big area at once. We grade around the house for drainage, add topsoil near the foundation where the lawn will be used most, and spray a lawn mix there with a lower-maintenance grass on the outer ground.
Weather
Celina has hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. Warm-season grass does best seeded from late spring into early summer, with water available during the first weeks.

Celina Questions
Can you hydroseed a few acres in Celina?
Yes. Hydroseeding covers large areas efficiently. We often split a property into a lawn zone and a lower-maintenance outer zone.
My lot was cleared pasture. Will grass come back on its own?
Rarely in a useful way. Stripped clay tends to crust and wash. Grading, topsoil and seeding give a much better result.
Do Celina builders need silt fence on every lot?
Erosion control rules depend on the site, but silt fence on the low side of disturbed ground is standard practice to keep sediment on site.
When should I seed a new Celina yard?
Late spring to early summer is ideal for warm-season grass, as long as you can water during the first few weeks.
