Seeding Along the Rowlett Shoreline
Hydroseeding in Rowlett is tied to the lake that made the town. Rowlett had a building boom after Lake Ray Hubbard was completed in the early 1970s, growing from about 1,600 people in 1973 to 44,503 in 2000. Much of the city now sits on peninsulas and coves where yards drain straight to the water.
Creek and lake
The city takes its name from Rowlett Creek, which flows into Lake Ray Hubbard and is a major tributary of the East Fork of the Trinity River. Shoreline and creek-side yards need stable banks, and the city's water supply depends on clean water in the lake. On those lots we use silt fence or fiber logs at the low edge and heavier mulch or erosion control blankets on any slope toward the water.
Rebuilding after the 2015 tornado
On December 26, 2015, an EF4 tornado tore a 13-mile path from Sunnyvale and Garland through southeast Rowlett, damaging or destroying hundreds of homes. Rebuilds after storms like that leave yards scraped down to clay, with ruts from heavy equipment. We regrade, add topsoil and hydroseed so the new lawn comes in evenly instead of patching around the damage.
New development
The Sapphire Bay project on the lake was planned in 2019 as a 116-acre development with a man-made lagoon, more than 1,500 residential units and over 20 acres of parks and trails. Big projects near water need sediment control throughout construction and stable vegetation on graded areas before they finish.

Rowlett Questions
Does a lakefront lot in Rowlett need special erosion control?
Usually yes. Soil from a bare shoreline lot goes straight into the lake, so we add silt fence and heavier cover on slopes.
Can you reseed a yard after a rebuild?
Yes. We regrade equipment ruts, add topsoil and hydroseed the whole yard for an even lawn.
Is hydroseeding good for a sloped yard toward a cove?
Yes, with blankets or bonded fiber matrix laid over the steeper part so seed stays in place.
Do you handle builder work in Rowlett?
Yes. Silt fence, inlet protection, final grading and seeding for residential and mixed-use projects.
